M1ETN's world wide communications center.

I have been licensed since June 2000 with the call sign M1ETN, which is the FULL UK licence, which means I can use all the amateur bands, 2003 was a quite year, I spent more time building engines, but for this year 2004, the shack is getting updated, new aerials. I'm hopefully setting up and IGATE node on APRS, an eQSO and ECHO Link Node on 70Mhz 430Mhz and 1297Mhz, and I'm going to play with some high speed TCP/IP datacomms, on 23cms, looking in to making 'packet radio' more modern, say 10Mbs to start with, look at it as a VPN for Radio amateurs.

I'm going to see if I can setup a 23cms voice repeater, as we have already GB3NL, GB3LV (2m & 70cms voice) GB3EN (23cms ATV) repeaters locally.

My radio shack is in the loft, where I have the following equipment (To end of 2003, 2004 should see some additions)

Equipment

  1. AEA:-  PK-232MBX(Will have the updates installed this year DSP, etc.)
  2. Trio/Kenwood:-  TS811E 70cms Multimode Rig
  3. Trio/Kenwood:- TS711E 2m Multimode Rig (currently on work bench as it is dead)
  4. Yeasu:- FT-290R 2m rig. Used on APRS (Will be removed, and replaced with a newer unit)
  5. Alinco:-  DX-70 for HF & 50Mhz
  6. Heathkit:-  HW 101 a Fully valved HF SSB TRX
  7. Marconi:-  RC626 - EX PMR rig modded for 70Mhz operation
  8. PYE F490:- 70Mhz base station, running eQSO
  9. Kenwood:-  TM-271E
  10. Alinco:- DR-435

I have a 110W PA for 2m, and the antennas at my QTH are, Diamond V-2000 (6m, 2m, & 70cms Tri-band Vert.) a Diamond X-5000 (2m, 70cms & 23cms Vert.) a Watson WBV-70 Half wave Vert for 4m, and Finally for HF and End Fed long wire tuned with an SGC-230 Autotuner.

Although it is a bit out of date, it should give you and Idea of what is connected to what. I do have a 12 metre pump up mast, which I bought at a very good price a few years ago, but have not got around to fitting up. This might be mounted on the garage at the end of the garden, which will pose some problems, as the Co-Ax run will be on the + of 60Meters, not to bad for 2m, as I have a 120W linear in the shack, but it looks like I will have to make some mast head (on base) linear / preamps (for other bands), which will be remote controlled from the shack, i.e. all the control lights, power o/p info, and SWR info will be fed back to the shack via either direct cabling, or via a 10GHz microwave link, in the amateur band. I have some data on an Ethernet over radio, but I may just use a basic system of beeps for data transmission, just have to wait an see what I can come up with
